JOHNSON
FEELS CALL TO BEGIN SPORTS REACH FASTPITCH
The following is from a special excerpt from an article
published in the Spring 2009 edition of the Sports Reach
publication...
Kevin
Johnson thought he had started his Sports Reach career as a
softball players in the early '90s. He played in tournaments for
give summers before taking time to start coaching his daughters'
softball teams.
But the real beginning to his Sports Reach career is just
starting. Johnson, a proven fastpitch coach and instructor has
started a girls 18 and under Sports Reach fastpitch team.
But with that beginning came an ending...
Johnson had started the Stunners fastpitch team and training
program several years ago. He leaves it at at time when it's the largest program in the state. " People kept
telling, 'you're crazy!." Johnson said. "But I feel this is what
God is leading me to do."
It won't hurt that his entire 18 and under team will be joining
him. "I told the girls what I was going to do and they couldn't'
wait to join me. Every one of the them."
Johnson has fielded a completive schedule that will run through
the summer. "We're going to have a chapel service in every
ballpark we play in," Johnson said. " And we've already
purchased New Testament Bibles to hand out. We're not taking
this lightly. We're here to show what a witness can be while
playing sports."
The schedule also includes a mission trip to Knoxville,
Tennessee between July 8-12.
As a way of funding the trip, the team will host the ASA
Northern Qualifier in Louisville, KY. ASA has graciously chosen
to donate all profits form the tournament to help fund the trip.
As a community event, Johnson's home church, South Jefferson
Christian in Louisville, KY, will host a free camp ran by the
team on July 19th.
"We feel that it will be a good experience for the girls to work
with other youth and raise money for a good cause," Johnson
said.
Our team is looking forward to our inaugural season and will be
focused on trying to make a difference in people's lives! |

2009 THE
FIRST SUMMER SEASON... |
The following is an article
published in an edition of the Sports Reach
publication...
Finish with a win...
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have
kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of
righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award
to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have
longed for his appearing.
(2 Timothy 4:7-8)
While the scorebook doesn't show that the 18U Sports Reach Girls
Fastpitch softball team finished with a win to close out their
summer travel ball season, you can be assured that it was a
successful season of victories on and off the field.
The team coached by Kevin Johnson and based out of Louisville
Kentucky, completed their inaugural season as champions of 2
tournaments and with runner-up finishes in 3 tournaments,
including the ASA 18U Hall Of Fame Classic in Oklahoma City, as
well as a hard-fought 5th place finish in the NSA A World
Series in East Peoria Illinois.

In between tournaments and prior to their trip to the NSA World
Series, the team went on a mission trip that involved activities
in Knoxville and Nashville Tennessee as well as conducting a
mini-camp at the South Jefferson Christian Church in Louisville.
The girls along with Coach Johnson, and parent, Nathan Cornette,
involved themselves in activities with children at various local
outreach facilities and also worked with a large food bank
operation.
Showing the same teamwork at the food bank as they showed on the
field, the girls processed boxes of food to be delivered to
several thousand families. The food bank supervisor was
overwhelmed and impressed with the effort that the girls gave
towards their mission.
Also highlighting the mission trip was the red carpet
treatment they received from University of Tennessee's co-head
coach Ralph Weekly.

Coach Weekly, who along with his wife Karen, run one of
America's premier college programs and are blessed with a new
state-of-the-art facility that the girls were given a full tour
of before taking the field for an exhibition game with the
Chattanooga Fury.
The mini-camp found the girls once again interacting with
children, this time on the field and afterwards with a lunch of
hamburgers and hotdogs. It was another great day and opportunity
to spread the word and mission through softball.
During their travels, there was no shortage of people wanting to
know "what the team was about" and they would soon learn that
it's more a matter of "who" it's about.
The simple showing of the Sports Reach logo on the scoreboard
during the four games the team played on the Hall Of Fame
Stadium field in Oklahoma City created an awareness and
atmosphere like no other. And when the teams gathered to pray,
just as they did after all games, the silent spirit throughout
the stadium was a special moment.
Hearts were touched during the season and the work begun now
will continue to provide victories for years to come.

2009
Summer Mission Trip...
During the week of July
5th, the SportsReach team traveled to
Knoxville Tennessee to help with various local
children's facilities and youth groups.
While in
Knoxville, they were able to play a nightcap game
against the Chattanooga Fury Gold at an
exposure event at UT's Lee Stadium, where they were
also treated to a tour of their amazing facilities
and a time of fellowship with UT's co- head coach
Ralph Weekly.
They then traveled to Nashville to continue their
mission trip by visiting a local Children's Hospital
and volunteering their services to help a food bank
prepare boxes of food for over a thousand families. |

 |
 |
The week rounded out with the team
finishing as runner-up in
the Tennessee USSSA State Tourney held in Gallatin
Tennessee. Congratulations to the West Tennessee
Stars and their championship finish.

The Sports Reach mission was able to reach out to the players
and fans throughout the tournament in many ways. The Sports
Reach logo was displayed during each at-bat during the 4 games
in the Stadium Complex and the teams joined in prayer following
each game. Many questions were fielded as others asked more
about our outreach mission. Our hope is that we made a
difference in some way in someone's life. Praise the Lord. |

First, we appreciate everyone that contributed their
time and facilities to help everyone enjoy a
successful tournament and we also appreciate all the
teams and their own dedication, hard play and
competitive spirit throughout the tournament and
hope each continues to have a safe and successful
summer.
We especially congratulate the runner-up Stunners
"Black" team that consisted of girls and coaches
from Hardin, Meade and other surrounding counties in
Kentucky. They fought back up through the lower
bracket with huge come-from-behind victories over
the 18U Stunners "Red" and the third-place
finishers, 18U Bluegrass Blaze, along with forcing a
deciding championship game with a 2-1 victory over
Sports Reach.
Sports Reach Fastpitch won the deciding game to
clinch the championship and secure a spot in the 18U
ASA Northern Nationals to be held in Novi Michigan
later this summer. However, due to Sports Reach's
prior commitment to the USFA Nationals in Panama
City, the runner-up Stunners accepted the berth and
will attend the event in Novi.
Again, congratulations to all the teams and a huge
thank you to everyone's contribution. |

2010 MISSION TRIP |
|

|

|
June 27, 2010
The team completed their second annual mission trip
with activities in Knoxville and Nashville Tennessee
and surrounding areas.
The team shared a time of fellowship with several
local travel teams including the Knoxville Thunder,
who they played in an exhibition at Bearden High
School in Knoxville as well as competing in the
Tennessee USFA State Tournament in Gallatin to close
out the trip.
While in Knoxville, the team was graciously hosted
on Wednesday by Pastor Rob Hammond and the youth
ministry department of Grace Baptist Church. The
girls played volleyball, basketball and was treated
to an after-activity meal from McAllister's.
During the trip the team was able to reach out to
other youth with fellowship, encouragement and God's
Word at the "My Village" United Way Center in
Knoxville and the Youth Encouragement Services
Center in Nashville.
The team would again like to thank all those that
prayed for the team and trip and helped to make it
possible for the team to be able to touch so many
lives and for many decisions to be made by new and
old friends alike for the second straight year. |
